THEN AND NOW...MY HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED!!

Greetings,

THESE WERE THE PRICES BACK IN 1959!

I myself can remember gasoline at $0.29 per gallon, but that was actually in 1977. My sister and I shared the driving rights of a Buick Apollo (purchased by my Dad, of course) and I can also remember the fights we had over whether it cost one dollar or two to go to our favorite summer beach (around 80 miles round trip). We usually settled on $1.50. In the background I could hear my Dad saying, "It's not JUST the gas. It's the wear and tear, the maintenance, the insurance etc..." I sure understand that now!!

Car: $2,200
Gasoline: 30 cents/gal
House: $18,500
Bread: 20 cents/loaf
Milk: $1.01/gal
Stamp: 4 cents
Average Annual Salary: $5,500
Minimum Wage: $1.00 per hour
